CO-VID SUMMER 2020: PRETTY PICTURE EDITION I

June – September, 2020

Yellow Springs, Ohio…2017

We’ve taken to a certain style in writing our blog, attempting to paint a mental picture of our adventures, to tell a story of our adventures, using photography as the anchor to create a memory of the journey at that time and place. But honestly we sometimes forget to jot down where we’ve been, why we went there, why we went on that specific hike, where a picture was taken, or what month it might have been.

This blog is a photographic compilation – pictures of flowers, insects, lizards, birds and amphibians that we feel are pretty cool. Some were taken while hiking in Flagstaff, Williams, and Sedona. Some were taken in an arboretum, some by the side of the road. All we remember is that they were all taken the summer of 2020.

Yup – In A Tree

We feel as if our life is not big enough, that there is just not enough time, nor hours in the day to find and share all of the glorious panoramas, the wide spaces, the hidden loveliness and quirkiness that reward us as the searchers…but we’re sure as hell gonna try.

  1. I love them – as always! Such wonderful photographs. The quartet of what looked like maybe a gull in flight called to mind immediately the cover of Jonathan Livingston Seagull! I’m so glad you’re able to find so much wonder and delight in every day!!

  2. After viewing B&B’s pics and tales of travel I could take no more and had to break contain. And I can say – unbelievably – I think I stomped some trails they have yet to chronicle. Went to Great Sand Dunes NP and Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado. Chose these parks as many of the more well known and visited parks have area restrictions due to Covid. These parks maintained full access and I was generally able to social distance by at least 600 feet at most times. Weather was ideal, cool in the morning w/ daytime highs around 70 and loads of bright blue sky and 50 mile views from mountain tops. My drive between parks and back to Denver airport included scenic drives across the Continental Divide.
Aside from the great pics and stories, B&B’s site – at least for me – serves as a constant reminder to quit saying “I’ll do that trip next year” – as they say – tomorrow never comes. So thanks for serving as a conscience for my inner wanderer – I really enjoyed and needed that trip. Next year – with hopes Covid is a fading memory – I will be telling you folks about my rafting trip through Big Bend.

    1. Rich, Thank you again and again for your kind words. Barbara and I will readily accept the responsibility for pushing your wonderlust to action. Glad the trip was good for you and, I hope, refreshing for your wellbeing. We had visited the Great Sand Dunes (and rented a sand sled for a few trips down a dune or 2 and then back up again) and Black Canyon of the Gunnison a number of years ago – and loved both. Be well and stay safe…Go Blue
